Migration & Diversity Centre Report (2019)
In collaboration with my colleague Kay Mars (VU Amsterdam), I conducted a small-scale, internal research on behalf of the Migration & Diversity Research Centre (MDC) at VU Amsterdam. This research resulted in a currently unpublished report that serves as the basis for the forthcoming "Inward looking Conference", organised by the MDC. In addition, it is used internally by various faculties for their education programs.
Our report zoomed in on education within the VU's faculties offering migration and/or diversity related courses. Over a course of two years, we collected and analysed course manuals of twenty-four courses currently taught at the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Social Sciences. In our report, we inventorized and critically evaluated how concepts and issues regarding migration and diversity are being taught in today's classrooms at VU Amsterdam. This evaluation included an analysis of the course level/type, structure and content; course literature; and course assessments. Moreover, we examined each course with respect to diversity and representation among the student and staff body as well as the selected course literature.
